Idyllwild

Cabin fever+full tank of gas+new camera = road trip!

A short one, unfortunately. Time constraints. Gotta work tonight. So we drove through the Badlands, into Banning. From there, we took the Banning-Idyllwild Panoramic Highway.

It'll be a long time before I do that again ... one of the twistiest, windiest roads I've ever voluntarily driven on. But it is beautiful, and I'm glad I did it. Did I mention that I'm terrified of heights and mountain driving? We got there, going about 35 MPH up the whole mountain.

Idyllwild is interesting - an isolated, artsy little tourist trap. We stopped to rest at a little coffeeshop, then browsed through the junk stores. I found a postcard(!) and even a post office to mail it from(!). I didn't get all that many pictures - I didn't feel safe stopping most places on the road, most sightseeing points in the national forest required a pass, and there wasn't a ton to see actually in Idyllwild.

Maybe when I actually get the guts to go up that hill again, I'll buy a forest pass and go exploring a little more thoroughly.

The trip down wasn't as bad - windy, but not as steep. We went down the other side of the hill into Hemet, and up the valley to get home.

I think I'm going to have to have more adventures soon, gas prices be damned.
