too much for one morning.

The president, in an announcement, declared that the commutation of Scooter Libby's sentence was "Fair and balanced."

The irony, it is stunning.

Maybe Faux News will use that bit in their ads.

I met up with Scarlette, Kate, and Meliah for breakfast this morning. Good times and gossip and such. Before going, I changed from my scrubs to an outfit I had in my car, due to some blood staining.

After breakfast, I went to the Orange County Animal Shelter to get some information for a small project at work. They weren't open yet, so I sat on one of the benches near the entrance. Several people came up to me, asking when the shelter would be open, how to drop off an animal, things like that. I finally texted Meliah (translated from txt speak) - "I'm in front of the shelter, and people keep asking me questions. Do I just look like I work with animals?"

A few minutes later, Meliah sends this reply: "You're wearing a shirt with a dog on it."

The animal shelter always makes me sad. Three people waiting to drop off dogs - all large mixed
breeds. Two "needs a yard to run around in" and one "Doesn't like the new puppy". Bite your tongue, girl I had to remind myself over and over.

I didn't have the heart to even walk down the "small dogs" aisle. I had to walk past the cats to get to the office, and that was heartbreaking.

On the way home, I turned on NPR. The report was on bill AB 1634 in the California Legislature - the bill required pets not licensed for breeding, showing, or service to be spayed or neutered, in the hopes of reducing shelter overcrowding and euthanasia.

The bill has been tabled until next year.

I want the legislators to come sit with me outside the animal shelter, talking to the people bringing in injured stray cats and un-neutered dogs found running loose in the streets. Or seeing the cat wards, full of Spring-born kittens with no place to go. Even just hearing the din of dogs howling and barking in concrete runs, like they know they have a time limit.

I'm very disappointed.

There was a meeting at work last night, and then a smaller, agonizingly uncomfortable one. I don't really want to talk about either, at least for now. We'll see how things go.

I always think I'm going to get so much done on Thursdays, then I find a comfy spot on the couch and stay there. Oh well. Got no one to answer to but me.
