it didn't suck!

Work was, for the first time in a long while, intellectually stimulating and not miserable.

Yes, just about every interesting patient was dead by the time I left, but they all managed to be facinating as they were dying. There was the kitty, anemic, in renal failure, with pericardial, pleural, and abdominal effusion, no protein despite multiple plasma transfusions and Hetastarch. She didn't respond to anything we gave her, and we gave everything to her. She didn't die, either. She kept fighting, though her body temp was 93 and her blood pressure was 35.

I got a central line and a urinary catheter in her. Kitty vaginas are tiny!

In total, i put in three central lines last night. All after other people had tried. I don't like being the last chance person, because I'm never considered difficult veins my best skill. Doing so many venipunctures over the years has given me skill, but I want to know that there is someone better than me to hand it off to if I can't do it.

Can't handle the pressure, I guess. Or I just don't want to.

Anyway, I almost could say that I enjoyed my shift last night.

Hopefully, tonight will be as good. It's LP and GU, though. I'm nervous. I may be assisting in a femur fracture repair, and I've never seen ortho work before. Might be neat.

  • Love.

Sometimes you have to go 2000 miles to get to the one. So worth it. Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone.

It's already getting wild out here, and I've completely re-evaluated my definition of "behaving myself". All the fun. Posted via LiveJournal…

  • everything came together perfectly

I'm in Nashville. In my beautiful house, with all my wonderful animals, and i'm in love with the man sleeping with his head on my lap right now.…
